Pro Bono: Sparroways Giveaways 2024

Giving back to our North York community

Tags: , , ,

Oct 2024: Pixel Dreams proudly participated in Fall Fest, a community event organized by the Sparroways’ Restorative Justice Program (RJP). This news post highlights how the event unfolded and how Pixel Dreams contributed.

Our contributions included donating Indigo gift cards for the kids to buy books with, thirty copies of the children’s book Bouncy Belongings?! (published by PDVERSE), and provided creative work and consulting to support the event’s success.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to pay it forward.

On Fall Fest

Fall Fest is an initiative by the Sparroways Restorative Justice Program (RJP). The RJP is led by Jegmal Williams and Sakeenah Abdul, who run the program while working full-time. The program is based out of Sparroways, a North York community. The RJP leaders aim to strengthen ties among Sparroways youth amid social challenges such as gang violence and racial injustice.

This year, the RJP hired three youth interns and created a children’s program for the interns to lead. Fall Fest is an opportunity for the youth to plan and lead an end-of-year event.

Fall Fest Day

From 2-5 pm on Sunday, October 27th, the Sparroways community building was bustling with children, parents, and adults from the community. There was music, food, a photo booth, face painting, henna, and raffle prizes.

Throughout the day, the raffle prizes from PD were shared with 9 lucky winners. We rounded up a handful of them for a quick photo at the end of the day!

What’s next?

Thank you, Universe, for connecting the many dots between Sparroways, Pixel Dreams, Jegmal, Khalid, and Fall Fest. As Jegmal put it during our discovery phase, “This is some universe manifestation, 222, all that!”

We hope the Indigo gift cards serve the winners and the Sparroways community well, introducing new stories, exciting adventures, and timely wisdom. We look forward to future opportunities to support the community and its leaders.

Thank you to Sparroways, the RJP, Jegmal, and Sakeenah for bringing this first collaboration to life!
