The WednesdAI Guide to AI Prompting

Prompting isn’t just about asking nicely. It’s the gateway skill that powers everything from AI writing and image generation to strategy, research, and design.
This week on WednesdAI, we skipped the feature hype and got back to basics with a simple, powerful framework to transform your prompts.

Rule 1: Be Stupidly Specific

Vague prompts get vague results.
Tell the AI exactly what to do, what to look at, and how to interpret it.

❌ “Organize these questions”
✅ “Column C contains 400 customer questions. Group them into 5 themes by topic and tone.”

🎭 Rule 2: Assign a Role
Prompting without a role is like casting a movie without telling your actor what character they’re playing.

❌ “Organize these questions”
✅ “You are a B2B SaaS marketing copywriter rewriting this for decision-makers.”

Giving your AI a clear role instantly shifts tone, focus, and voice.

📊 Rule 3: Specify the Output
Tell the AI how you want the results delivered.

❌ “Summarize this”
✅ “Summarize into 3 bullets each under: Wins, Issues, and Next Steps. Use bold headers and emojis.”

Clarity = speed. And cleaner results.

💡 Bonus Rule: Check, Then Iterate

Want pro-level results? Ask ChatGPT:
“How would you improve this response?”

Then have it revise based on its own feedback.

We also ran side-by-side demos for each rule—using both text and image generation—so you can see the difference great prompting makes.

The images accompanying the news items in this article were generated in Midjourney using the following prompts:

A whimsical Rube Goldberg-style machine, with colorful gears, tubes, and funnels. The machine processes letters as inputs and outputs glowing, well-organized “IDEAS” (checklists, papers, symbols) through a funnel. Retro infographic style, flat vector illustration, warm yellow-orange background, bold outlines, editorial magazine feel.

Claymation and Byzantine mosaic fusion showing two humanoid jukeboxes shaking hands across a table made of floppy disks, surrounded by confused barbershop quartets with glowing earbuds, in a candlelit wood-paneled courtroom shaped like a treble clef

16-bit arcade game-inspired scene where AI-controlled player avatars are stuck in a 3D world made of old computer monitors, giant keyboards and floppy disk spires, while pixelated virtual trees offer them endless cups of coffee, lit by spotlights that turn the world into a glow-in-the-dark funhouse.

Stop-motion inspired cardboard and felt collage of an AI assistant hiding inside a vending machine to avoid being shut off, as a janitor with a rubber chicken tries to coax it out using coupons, all set in a surreal breakroom filled with coffee mugs growing tiny legs, lit with overhead buzz-lights.
