Everyone needs to bitch and complain sometimes. Something feels unfair. A decision makes no sense. A colleague disappoints you. A client is unreasonable. You’re exhausted, frustrated, angry, or simply having a bad day. And sometimes, if we’re being truthful, we don’t even fully believe what we’re saying.

We’re emotional. We’re seeing the situation from one side. We want someone to hear us. We want validation. Or we simply need to get the frustration out of our system before we can think clearly again. That’s human.

The mistake is believing that because the emotion is legitimate, every expression of it is legitimate too. It isn’t. There is a meaningful difference between feeling frustration and spreading frustration. The first is inevitable. The second is a choice.

Strong leaders and professionals aren’t people who never complain. They’ve simply learned where, when, and how to do it without damaging the people around them, their own credibility, or the organization they’re responsible for.

Consider this a practical guide to bitching and complaining responsibly.

Your guide

Step 01: Journal

Before you bring another person into your frustration, bring yourself into it.

Write.
A journal is useful because it gives emotion somewhere to go without requiring anyone else to carry it. More importantly, writing slows down thinking. What feels perfectly obvious in your head can look surprisingly different once it’s sitting in front of you on a page.

Use three steps.

01. Write everything down.

Don’t edit yourself.
Write what happened. Write what you’re angry about. Write what you think is unfair. Write the petty version. The irrational version. The version you wouldn’t want repeated in a meeting.
The journal is the safe place for all of it.

The objective isn’t to sound reasonable. The objective is to externalize the emotion so you can examine it.
 

02. Write what you’re grateful for.

Change lenses.
What is going well? Who has helped you? What opportunities do you have? What might the other person be dealing with that you can’t see? What part of this situation, however small, can you appreciate?

Gratitude doesn’t invalidate frustration. It restores perspective. Both things can be true: this situation sucks and a great deal is still going right.
 

03. Reflect on your words.
 
Reread what you wrote.

Ask yourself: What is actually true?
Not what feels true. Not what you wish were true. Not the story you’ve constructed around what happened.
What do you know?

Ask the harder question: What part of this belongs to me?
Perhaps your frustration is justified. Perhaps you’re completely wrong. Usually, reality contains some uncomfortable mixture of both.

If journaling gives you clarity, great! Close the journal and move on.
If you’re still carrying it, proceed to Step 02.

Step 02: Complain in safety

Sometimes reflection isn’t enough.
 

You need another human being.
But who you choose matters enormously. In a professional environment, the safest direction for raw frustration is generally upward. Your manager, mentor, coach, or another trusted senior leader can provide a container for thinking that isn’t yet fully formed. Ideally, these are people with enough context, maturity, and authority to hear your frustration without simply absorbing it.
 

Leaders need places where they can temporarily be unreasonable, emotional, contradictory, or foolish while working their way back toward clarity. Psychological safety isn’t only the freedom to say the right thing. It can also be the freedom to safely say the wrong thing while figuring out what the right thing is.

The key word, however, is safely.
 

Don’t complain sideways or down!
 

This is where venting becomes dangerous.
Don’t bitch and complain across to your peers. And especially don’t do it downward to people you lead.

Why?
Because what feels like harmless venting to you can become information to someone else. Your frustration with a decision becomes evidence that leadership doesn’t know what it’s doing – or you’re completely out for lunch.

• Your complaint about a colleague becomes permission to distrust that colleague.
• Your pessimism about a project becomes someone else’s pessimism about the company.
• And because leadership creates asymmetry, your words may carry more weight than you may realize.

A junior employee can’t always distinguish between “my leader is having a frustrating afternoon” and “something is seriously wrong.” That’s why leadership requires emotional discipline. This doesn’t mean hiding problems, suppressing disagreement, or pretending everything is wonderful. Healthy organizations need vigorous debate. Leaders should challenge bad decisions and surface uncomfortable truths. But constructive disagreement and emotional dumping are not the same thing.
 

Know which one you’re doing.
 

Your emotions have a blast radius.

The more senior you become, the larger that radius gets.
A frustrated junior employee might ruin someone’s afternoon. A frustrated executive can change the mood of a department. A frustrated CEO can make hundreds of people wonder whether the company is in trouble. This creates one of the less glamorous responsibilities of leadership:

You need somewhere for your emotional waste to go.

• Journal.
• Talk to your manager.
• Call a mentor.
• Speak with a coach.

Find someone sufficiently removed from the situation to challenge your interpretation rather than amplify it. Process the emotion somewhere safe. Then return to your team ready to deal with the underlying problem.

Conclusion

Venting isn’t a character flaw.
It’s a pressure-release mechanism.

Sometimes we need to say the unreasonable thing before we can discover the reasonable thing. Sometimes we need to feel sorry for ourselves for ten minutes. Sometimes we need someone we trust to listen patiently and then tell us we’re full of shit. That’s part of being human. Professionalism isn’t the absence of those moments. It’s having the judgment to know where they belong.

So when frustration hits: Start with yourself.
Write it down. Get it all out. Find some gratitude. Reflect on what’s actually true. And if that’s not enough, find a safe person above you and let it out there.

Be emotional.
Be frustrated.
Be wrong.

Just be thoughtful about who has to carry it. Because you are entitled to your emotions. You are not entitled to distribute them indiscriminately.

Then regular life returns. The inbox fills up. Meetings begin. A client has a problem. Something urgent replaces something important. Slowly, the clarity fades, and the person you were before the experience starts to reappear. The magic is gone.

This is not unusual. In fact, it is so common that many of us begin chasing the feeling again. We attend another event. Buy another book. Download another audiobook. Listen to another expert.

There is nothing wrong with seeking new ideas. The problem is that inspiration can give us the emotional reward of change before we have actually changed anything.

We feel better, so we assume we are better.

But feeling transformed and being transformed are not the same thing.

You can buy a book about becoming healthier, more disciplined, more financially responsible, or more thoughtful. Reading the first chapter may make you feel optimistic. That feeling is real. But unless something in your behaviour changes, your life remains largely the same. Insight is not transformation.

Transformation begins when insight survives contact with ordinary life.
 

Everyday Life Restores the Old Normal

All of us have an equilibrium: a level of behaviour, attention, satisfaction, and performance to which we naturally return. A powerful experience can lift us above it temporarily. A difficult experience can push us below it. But once the intensity passes, we tend to settle back to where we were.

That return is not necessarily bad. Stability matters. We cannot live at a permanent emotional peak, and we probably should not try. The more useful question is whether we can raise the equilibrium itself. Can we take something from a meaningful experience and use it to create a slightly better normal?

We’re not talking about a dramatic reinvention, nor a declaration that everything will be different from now on. Just a small, deliberate improvement in the level to which we return. That is how sustainable growth tends to happen. Not through endless cycles of extreme motivation and exhaustion, but through gentle upward adjustments made consistently over time.
 

Intensity Is Not the Same as Progress

 
When we’re young, life often feels like a series of big highs and big lows. A great experience can make everything feel possible. A bad one could make everything feel broken. As we mature, we become less interested in maximizing the highs and more interested in creating a steadier upward direction. We stop confusing emotional intensity with meaningful progress.

A breakthrough that disappears in a week is less valuable than a modest lesson that changes how you work for years. A punishing effort is not automatically more effective than an enjoyable, sustainable one. You can improve without making improvement miserable. You can pursue excellence without living in a constant state of strain. You can move toward championship status gradually.

The goal is not to eliminate the highs and lows. It is to learn from both of them while continuing to raise the baseline.
 

Carry One Thing Forward

 
After a meaningful experience, there is often pressure to retain every idea, conversation, lesson, and note. That is rarely realistic, and it may not even be necessary. You may only need to carry one or two things forward.

Take a few minutes after the intensity has passed. Review your notes, or go for a short walk without your phone. Ask yourself:

• What changed for me?
• What do I understand now that I did not understand before?
• What is worth carrying into tomorrow?

Then make the answer concrete.

Do not simply decide that you want to be more present. Decide what being more present will change in your calendar. Do not merely conclude that relationships matter. Decide whom you will call, meet, thank, or listen to differently. Do not say that you want to be a more effective leader. Identify the conversation, habit, or decision that better leadership requires.

A lesson becomes durable when it changes behaviour.
 

Raise the Level You Return To

 
Most meaningful experiences eventually become memories. Their emotional force fades. The details blur. That is natural. The measure of their value is not whether we can recreate the original feeling.

The value of the experience is whether something remains after the feeling is gone. A better habit. A clearer decision. A more generous interpretation. A stronger relationship. A slightly higher standard.

The question is not how to preserve an entire experience forever. The question is what you can take from it that will gently raise the level to which you return.

That is how the improvement becomes real. Not all at once. But steadily, enjoyably, and over time.

The concept emerged from a practical challenge. Previous Summer Summits had taken place at destination venues where pools, hot tubs, and other amenities helped shape the experience. This year’s local venue offered more of a blank slate. Instead of the out-of-town retreat of previous years, a local summer festival would bring Pixel Dreams’ culture to life in 2026.

Starting together, then splitting off.

 
The day began with Pixel Mafia, a customized version of the all-hands game Mafia or Werewolf. From there, everyone could choose their own route through the morning.

Movement options included yoga, Kal-isthenics, and Minute to Win It. Later, the Move & Learn sessions offered a choice between Systema and a guided photo walk.

Some activities were energetic. Others were slower or more exploratory. Together, they reflected our three core values: improving health, seeking wisdom, and cultivating teamwork.
 

Choose your own festival.

After a catered Vietnamese lunch, the venue opened into a self-directed afternoon festival. PDTers rotated through cornhole, ping-pong, Spikeball, bocce, keep-ups, hula hoops, and other lawn games. Art stations offered space to contribute to a collaborative piece, make tie-dye, experiment with bubbles, or simply chill with other team members.

Mini games, a raffle, and the Plounge gave people more places to compete, gather, or slow down. Music carried through the afternoon, with sets from Shazami Rami and Sofboi helping turn the venue into a true summer festival.

Each individual’s experience of the Fest was unique. PDTers moved freely between games, art, food, music, and conversation.

Living our values.

Our Day-01, full-day together created space to discuss how Pixel Dreams is changing. PD Fest celebrated and reinforced our company’s enduring qualities – tangible through the way our PDTers moved, learned, made, played, helped, and spent time together.

Across the two days, culture appeared both as something the team could examine and articulate, and as something people create through their choices, habits, and relationships.

This year’s theme, CHANGE, asked the team to look beyond external pressures and consider the choices we can make in our work, operations, growth, and culture.

Change across our business.

Our daytime program focused on four areas influencing Pixel Dreams’ direction: the growing role of AI, the evolution of Client Success as expectations change, the introduction of new operational tools and systems, and the continued growth of our Vietnam operations. Through presentations, interviews, demonstrations, and fireside chats, our speakers connected large strategic questions to the practical decisions our teams are making now.
 

Our program also included a series of Raising Standards showcases, where teams examined recent projects and company initiatives. These showcases created room to discuss what worked, what proved difficult, and what our experiences can teach us about producing stronger work.

We concluded the day with our CEO’s State of the Nation address. The session connected the day’s discussions to the company’s direction and the role each of us can play in our collective futures.

Recognizing the people behind the progress.

After a full day reflecting on our past and envisioning the road ahead, the summit shifted from reflection to celebration. At Le Select Bistro, the PDT gathered over dinner for conversation, recognition, and the I+A Awards, celebrating team members who meaningfully embody or advance our purpose of Raising Intelligence and Awareness.

As dinner gave way to music and dancing, colleagues from different offices, teams, and disciplines had an opportunity to connect outside the rhythm of everyday work. For new teammates and those visiting from other offices, the evening session was an opportunity to build bonds and savour our PD culture at full force.
 

Changing how the summit comes together.

The theme of change shaped the event behind the scenes.

Holding Summer Summit locally instead of organizing an out-of-town gathering required the planning team to reconsider its approach to venues, production, and programming.

A more focused technical setup reduced unnecessary equipment and shortened setup time. Clearer ownership across the planning, audiovisual, and activity teams helped the day move more efficiently, while employees stepped forward throughout the event to support setup, transitions, and cleanup.

Preparations were sometimes so thorough that employees offering extra help found little to do. This is a small but telling indication of the seamless unity of our team.

Turning change into choice.

Summer Summit 2026 gave us an opportunity to recognize what has already changed, speak honestly about what is still evolving, and strengthen the relationships needed for what comes next.

But change takes courage: the courage to raise our standards, to challenge familiar ways of doing things, and to act on what we learn.

That courage is what turns change into choice. For Pixel Dreams, the work has already begun.

The expectations of XT define what each executive is required to do individually. The CEO originally proposed those expectations, and we have since discussed, challenged, refined, and strengthened them through collaboration.

Cohesive Leadership Team
Cohesion is different. Cohesion defines how we show up for one another as a team. One is about individual leadership; the other is about team leadership. Being a cohesive team is not optional. It is a core expectation of every member of XT.

Our definition of cohesion should not come from an external consultant, a business school textbook, or a single person – but rather from us, XT.

Wisdom

Cohesion is not the absence of conflict, mistakes, or hardship. It is the willingness to recognize them, address them, and work together to make things better. We will continue to move through life’s seasons—both individually and collectively. Our responsibility is not to be perfect. Our responsibility is to stay vigilant, strive towards our ideals, and help one another return to them when we drift.

The effort matters.
No two people will always agree. No team will always be aligned. But when times get difficult, we know our intentions are good, we have each other’s backs, and we will strive towards our ideals – together. Knowing and striving, makes us cohesive.

Why

Conversations about culture have been increasingly crucial as the PD Team has grown. Important questions arise, such as “How do we define culture at PD? What’s important and sacrosanct? What is accidental that we can shed as we grow?”

Seeking wisdom is a core value at PD. On the topic of culture, XT sought wisdom from our mentors, advisors, and, of course, books on culture. It led them to the book The Culture Map. The book helped XT recognize so much of what our Founders lived through but hadn’t articulated as “culture.”

PD is diverse by nature. Now a global company, we come from a variety of cultures with the shared aim to do great work together. The better we understand cross-cultural collaboration, the better we co•create solutions that move the audience, the needle, and the world.

What is a PRINT Assessment?

The PRINT Assessment identifies why you act: your Unconscious Motivators, your Best Self, and your Shadow. This complements Kolbe-A, which measures how you act: your instinctive problem-solving style and Modus Operandi (MO). Together: motivation + method.

In their debrief with Teresa, XT and Team Leads will explore what drives them and how they can lead with more clarity. Sharper decisions, more deliberate communication, and stronger collaboration across the company.

What is Strategic Coach?

Strategic Coach is a global coaching program helping entrepreneurs build companies while creating more personal freedom.

For our FRIducation, Teresa will tailor four concepts for creatives:

Over two days in Quảng Trị, our Hanoi team visited PD’s first children’s library, celebrated the opening of our second, and stood inside the future home of our third. Together, the three stops showed the 100 Libraries initiative in motion: one space serving its school community, one opening its doors, and one taking shape.

Representing Pixel Dreams were:

Together, the team travelled through Quảng Trị to continue PD’s long-term commitment to Raising Intelligence + Awareness through access to learning, by opening 100 libraries around the world.

The Journey

From Hanoi to Quảng Trị

 
Our team departed Hanoi on Wednesday, June 3. This would be the away team’s first time visiting Quảng Trị, where we would celebrate the opening of PD’s second children’s library, meet the community it was built to serve, and experience the region firsthand. Alongside our luggage, we packed a special gift from friends of Pixel Dreams in Hanoi.

We landed at Đồng Hới Airport and drove west to Khe Sanh. The three-hour drive, passing rolling hills, winding roads, and rows of wind turbines, was an opportunity to enjoy the rugged beauty of Central Vietnam.

Upon arriving, we were greeted by Mr Tùng Hoàng, Director of the SEEDS Scholarship Program. It was a pleasure to finally meet in person and learn more about his work in the region. We enjoyed his passionate stories about the local communities, the impact of educational initiatives in the area, and his deep connection to the place he is dedicated to serving.
 

“Our students are eager to learn. With a space like this and the support of so many partners, we can give them more opportunities to grow and succeed,” shared Mr Đinh Anh Công, Principal of Thanh Lower Secondary School.

Visiting the First Library

 
The next morning, we hit the road early and made our way to our first stop: Ba Tầng Lower and Secondary School in Lia Commune, home to PD’s first children’s library, established in 2024.

The school was on summer break, so the team met with the librarian and toured the space. We were elated to see that the space was exceptionally well maintained, and delighted to see new additions throughout the library, including an expanded book collection made possible by additional donors.
 

Opening the Second Library

 
We arrived at Thanh Lower and Secondary School at exactly 10 am. Despite temperatures approaching 40°C, everyone was full of energy. Students, teachers, local officials, and community members had gathered to celebrate a milestone many months in the making.
 

 
The ceremony opened with a series of student performances, including Mùa Hạ Và Những Chùm Hoa Nắng, Bay Lên Nhé Nụ Cười, and Kiếp Sau Vẫn Là Người Việt Nam, celebrating youth, optimism, and national pride.
 

 
Mr Tùng and Jules then spoke about the partnership behind the project, and the importance of creating spaces where children can learn, explore, and grow. On behalf of Pixel Dreams, Jules also presented the special gift we had carried from Hanoi: a collection of original paintings donated by artist friends of Pixel Dreams.

Featuring scenes and people from Northern Vietnam, the artworks were gifted with the hope of bringing warmth to the new library and inspiring students to explore places, stories, and perspectives beyond their own community.
 

After a thank-you speech from the principal, representatives from the school, local authorities, Pacific Links Foundation, and Pixel Dreams gathered for the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Then the students entered the library for the first time.
 

 
Their excitement was immediate. They eagerly explored the shelves, opened books, and explored the space they had been anticipating for months. Watching the students discover the library for the first time, it was easy to imagine the library as a place for learning, imagination, and opportunity for years to come.

Planning for the Third Library

 
Before leaving Quảng Trị, we made one final stop: the proposed site for PD’s third children’s library.

The future library, currently under construction, will be a 96m2 space with dedicated reading areas for students and teachers. As we toured the site with local representatives, we learned more about the project’s specific challenges. By early afternoon, we were back on the road, heading to Huế to reconnect with the rest of the PD team.

Standing inside the unfinished third library only hours after opening the second, and one day after seeing the first thriving, brought the full shape of the initiative into focus. Pixel Dreams’ 100 Libraries goal can sound like a distant horizon, but in Quảng Trị, it felt immediate.

At PD, “tingz” is a flexible term. It can mean cool. It can mean bangin’. It can mean the song is right, the outfit is tight, or the room has found its rhythm. It’s anything worth pointing at and saying, “That’s tingz.”

For Spring Tingz on Friday May 8, 2026, the Party Planning Committee (PPC) leaned into that spirit for our second social event of the year. Name tags and icebreakers helped guests meet someone new. The Wall of Tingz invited people to leave their mark. Polaroids captured the night as it unfolded. Pizza and refreshments kept the room energized. After a long Toronto winter, the whole evening felt like the windows had finally opened.

The PPC was formed to create more opportunities for the Pixel Dreams Team (PDT), friends, family, and wider community to gather with intention. Spring Tingz continued that mission with a little more colour and a lot more energy.

Thank you to everyone who came and made Spring Tingz a proper PD ting.

On April 1, 2026, the Pixel Dreams Vietnam team hosted our very first house party at the Hanoi office.

More than fifty friends, partners, and familiar faces came through. For one night, the Hanoi office stopped feeling like a workplace and started feeling like a home base.

The night also gave our team a chance to test our skills in hosting, coordination, atmosphere, and hospitality, translating the Pixel Dreams experience for our overseas community. And honestly, if you’re going to throw your first house party as a creative team, April Fools’ Day feels like a fine choice.

“Is this for real?”

That was the most common response we got after sending out invitations.

A party. On April 1st.

In a cultural context where company parties aren’t the norm, people wondered if this was a prank.

Once guests stepped inside, the doubt faded. Then came the ohs, the laughter, and the “okay, wow.” Desks were pushed aside to make room for movement. Long tables filled with food stretched across the room. Chili-shaped string lights hung overhead, casting a warm, slightly chaotic glow. Screens lit up with the night’s visuals, and corners of the office turned into little pockets of interaction.
 

A Night of Small, Strange, and Fun Things

We didn’t over-structure the night (which is very typical for parties in Vietnam), but also didn’t leave it entirely to chance. A few carefully placed ideas, a handful of prompts, and just enough room for things to go slightly off-track. The result was loose, weird, and exactly right.

Fake Identity for the Night
Guests picked on-the-spot alter egos, some subtle, some completely unhinged. It made introductions slightly more confusing, but significantly more entertaining.

April Fools’ Kahoot
A quiz where logic punished you and instinct helped. By the end, everyone realized the questions had been messing with them the whole time.

Draw Yourself Board
A low-pressure corner where people could sketch themselves (or whatever version of themselves they felt like presenting that night). Equal parts wholesome and chaotic.

One-Shot Memories
Photos were treated less like content and more like keepsakes.

A Small Goodbye

In the middle of it all, we took a moment to send off one of our own.

Annie has been part of the Vietnam team since the early days. This was her last gathering with us before moving on. We shared a few words, and handed her a small set of gifts from the team.

It was simple. A few words, a few gifts, and a clear feeling in the room: Annie helped shape this team, and we’re grateful.
 

What People Took Home (Besides Full Stomachs)

We hope people left understanding us a little better.

Pixel Dreams Vietnam: small, with a bit of heat. The chili agency, if you will.

Guests also took home a set of designed goodies from the night: small keepsakes from the night: designed pieces people could take home, stick somewhere, and remember us by.

Conclusion

More than anything, the night proved that Pixel Dreams culture can travel. For the Hanoi team, this was a first step toward building gatherings with the same care we bring to our work: thoughtful, playful, and a little unexpected.

This is our Centennial Vision — the long arc guiding our work. Building libraries that raise Intelligence + Awareness. Writing books that share ideas worth spreading. We started 2025 with the theme: Fail Fantastically.
Failing fantastically was a reminder that a) failure is inevitable along the way to success, and b) you might as well make it fantastic. Dare to do bigger, better, drive more value, help more people, set higher targets, and enthusiastically attempt to achieve them.

Summary

We lost a few battles. We won many more.

For a small business with more extra-curricular activities than our advisors would like us to have, we’ve done alright. We punched above our weight class. We secured new enterprise clients. We gave generously to raising intelligence and awareness – our company’s purpose. And somehow, we found the time for a few parties.

PD’s Second Children’s Library

In mid-2025, we committed to opening our second children’s library — and by autumn, we had fully funded it. In early January 2026, a small team from Pixel Dreams made the long journey from Toronto to Hanoi to Quảng Trị, Vietnam for the groundbreaking ceremony. The occasion marked a tangible step forward in our purpose to Raise Intelligence + Awareness (I+A), and another step in our journey toward establishing 100 libraries around the world.

Hanoi Office Updates

In late 2024, we opened our first international office in Hanoi, Vietnam — a defining step in our evolution from a Toronto-rooted agency to a globally integrated team. By mid-2025, once the team had found its rhythm, we upgraded the Hanoi studio to full PD standards (June) — in design, functionality, and feel — ensuring our culture, expectations, and creative environment are consistent across continents.

In early 2025, we encouraged the team to “play, play, play” with AI — building literacy through curiosity and experimentation. By September, we conducted an internal audit and shared a report on how AI was truly being used, while also sunsetting our weekly WedAI videos as usage matured. What began as exploration is now a disciplined, everyday practice embedded in how we research, write, ideate, and think strategically.

“Good people know good people,” as the saying goes. Hosting is in our DNA at PD. From early days, we were the go-to spot for friends to gather, kick back, and have a good time on Fridays. With our newly minted Party Planning Committee (PPC), we set out to create more opportunities for friends and family of our community to gather.

February 27 marked the PPC’s first event of 2026. Friends, family, and team members came out to the Heart of Winter Social with open minds and cheerful hearts. Name tags and icebreakers helped our community mix, mingle, and cross-pollinate during a particularly ruthless Toronto winter chill. A walkaround magician added an extra touch of surprise, delight, and connection for our friends.

Thank you to our community for kicking off the first of many socials this year. We look forward to creating more experiences and opportunities for good people to meet good people.

In early January 2026, a small team from Pixel Dreams made the long journey from Toronto, through Hanoi, to Quảng Trị, Vietnam. The occasion: the groundbreaking ceremony for our second children’s library in the region — a tangible step forward in our purpose to Raise Intelligence + Awareness (I+A); one step further in our journey to establish 100 libraries around the world.

The Journey

 
Our trip began in Hanoi on Sunday, January 4. After a short flight to Hue, the team travelled by van toward Quảng Trị — stopping along the way for local meals and much-needed breaks.

We arrived in Quảng Trị by late afternoon, with enough time to visit a few local landmarks. One notable stop was the historical Tà Cơn Airport Relic Museum — a solemn reminder of the region’s complex past and enduring resilience.
 

 
By early evening, we were welcomed with warmth and celebration by local teachers and officials at a party held at the Koi Farm inside Bảo An Viên. The night was filled with singing — and not just casual karaoke. Everyone had amazing voices, singing fast-paced local songs that, as we later learned from the principal (translated by Jenn), reflect a unique regional tradition. These quick tempos are a cultural trait of the area, known for producing strong, resilient people. Music here isn’t just entertainment — it’s woven into their identity.
 

 
Later that night, our CEO went on a reflective walk through the town, accompanied by Mr Nhan, Project Coordinator for the SEEDS Scholarship Program at Pacific Links. Their quiet stroll led to friendly encounters with locals, spontaneous photo ops, and a renewed sense of purpose for the work ahead.
 

The Ceremony

 
The next morning, we gathered at Trường THCS Thanh for the groundbreaking ceremony. Students took the stage wearing the traditional dress of their respective ethnicities while performing the contemporary pop song Di giua troi ruc ro. The song speaks to youthful aspiration, freedom, and self-discovery. Its lyrics encourage young people to overcome hardship, live fully within the moment, and carry a deep love for their homeland.

As the ceremony continued, students from different grades performed dances and songs drawn from local stories and traditions. Teachers followed with a performance that grounded the celebration in care, pride, and continuity.

One of the most affecting moments came when students, many encountering foreigners in person for the first time, were invited to ask questions. With translation support from teachers, Jenn, and Tracy, their curiosity and wonder were heartfelt and deeply moving.

Several speeches followed, including remarks from Mr Tung Hoan, Director of the SEEDS Scholarship Program, and from our CEO, Khalid. His message, translated by Jenn, resonated deeply. The room was filled with quiet emotion. Though everyone was holding it in, the energy was unmistakably heartfelt.

The ceremony closed with a group dance led by Mr Hoan, who invited students, teachers, organizers, and guests to join in. What followed was a joyful, unforgettable moment of unity and shared celebration. A short tea and fruit reception gave space for conversations with local educators and provincial leaders.
 

Looking Ahead

 
By early afternoon, we were back on the road, heading to Hội An to reconnect with the rest of the PD team and our families. Along the way, we stopped at the breathtaking Lăng Cô Bay, taking in the view and reflecting on everything the day had meant.
 

This new library — the second of its kind initiated by PD — is more than a building. It’s a commitment. A promise that knowledge and imagination will have a place to grow, even in the most remote corners of the world.

As we break ground, we also plant seeds — not just of literacy, but of hope, curiosity, and future potential.

What Does It Mean to Fail Fantastically?

Failing fantastically is about aiming high enough that even a miss takes us further than most people’s wins. It’s a mindset rooted in bold ambition, creative stretch, and fearless goal-setting.

It looks like this:

• You have 40 hours for a project, so you challenge yourself to finish in 20. Maybe you hit 25. You’ve still pushed well past the norm.
• The industry standard for revenue growth is 20–30%, so we set a goal of 75–100%. Even if we “fail” at 35%, we’ve surpassed what’s considered great.
• Launching a company-wide LMS in 6 months is solid — so we set a goal of 4. It takes 5. Still a win. Still a fantastic failure.

The Day-to-Day of Failing Fantastically

What does this bold mindset look like in our daily work?

1. The Daily Practice of Setting Higher Aims

In day-to-day projects, we have the chance to stretch beyond what’s required. It could mean cutting the timeline in half to free up time for polish, doubling the creative scope on a first draft, or pitching three ideas instead of one.

The practice of failing fantastically starts here, in small decisions, quiet risks, and personal bets on working more audaciously than we did before.

2. Reframing Feedback as Fuel

When we set bold goals, we won’t always hit the mark. The feedback that follows can sting, but failing fantastically means treating that feedback as part of the build.

Every critique is a signal. It shows us where the edges are, what resonated, and what didn’t. We use that insight to sharpen the next attempt. Feedback accelerates us.

3. Becoming Our Own Push

It’s often the external push from a client that forces a team to rise. But the most ambitious work happens when we push ourselves. That’s failing fantastically: showing initiative, aiming higher, and taking risks before the pressure’s on.

The Fantastic Future Ahead

Failing Fantastically is about setting goals differently. We treat failure as a consequence of a worthy pursuit rather than a flaw. It’s a choice that prioritizes ambition over perfection.

If we failed fantastically enough in 2025, in 2026 we will Grow Greatly. The lessons learned, the challenges embraced, and the higher aims set last year will fuel an era of massive achievement.

So aim high and push yourself. And when you fail, it will be fantastically.

Breaking away from the confines of traditional galleries, Triposphere offered a bold fusion of heritage and modernity. The 92 pieces on display guided visitors through a spectrum of emotions: from the quiet introspection of black-and-white photography to the ethereal flow of digital illustration and the high-impact visual stimulation of installation art.

Media Buzz and Cultural Resonance

The success of Triposphere was measured not only by foot traffic but also by the critical acclaim it received from the press and art critics. Vietnamese press described Triposphere as a space drawing large numbers of young visitors, drawn in by the artists’ “youthful, bold, and honest” spirit. Other coverage leaned into the exhibition’s “in-between worlds” idea, where sleep-dreams and waking-dreams meet, and where people explore how they lose and find themselves through dreaming.

Throughout its duration, Triposphere welcomed over 1000 visitors. People stayed. People asked questions. People came in groups. People shared notes about their dreams. And the show became what we hoped it would be: a space where artists could be witnessed, and where visitors could recognize parts of themselves inside someone else’s dream.

Looking Ahead: The Journey Continues

While Triposphere in Hanoi 2025 has officially come to a close, the connections made and the inspiration sparked are only just beginning to grow. The organizing team wishes to extend our sincerest gratitude to the participating artists, our media partners, and especially the public for stepping into our small “universe.”

This Hanoi edition also carried extra meaning: a cultural “hello” from Pixel Dreams Vietnam, and a signal that we’re here to build with the local creative community for the long run.

It’s a great ambition, and one that our partners respect. So how do we get from here — an employee — to there, a shareholder in the company?

That is what this memo attempts to address.

Let’s start here:
We believe it’s important to clarify what ownership means to us, and how believe it’s earned.

Ownership Isn’t Given—It’s Earned

The partners who currently hold shares in Pixel Dreams didn’t ask for ownership. They invested in the company —not just with their skills, but with years of sacrifice, lower salaries, and relentless commitment to the company’s success. They weren’t just here for a job. They were here to build something bigger than themselves.

From our understanding, there are two primary paths to ownership in a company:

1. Investing Capital
   Buying into the company with real financial investment.
2. Investing Time & Sacrifice
   Dedicating years of work, often at reduced compensation, to build long-term value.

The original Pixel Dreams partners chose the second path. They put in the hours, took significant pay cuts, and made strategic decisions that helped us grow. They bet on the company’s future and their own at a time when the risks were high, and guarantees were none.

Questions for Those Who Want Ownership

So, for those who want a stake in Pixel Dreams, there are a few questions to get you started.

• Are you willing to do what it takes?
• Are you committed to the long-term success of the company, even when it’s hard?
• Are you ready to invest, not just with talent, but with real sacrifice?

In addition to asking yourself a few key questions, we recommend asking the current partners about their journey.

• How much of a pay cut did you take and for how long?
• What else did you do, sacrifice, and give up to be considered ownership in the company?
• How long did it take for you to eventually be considered?
• How much longer did it take to earn ownership?

It’s wise to remember that ownership isn’t a perk, nor is it earned by tenure. It’s a responsibility—one that comes with risk, accountability, long-term thinking, and the sacrifice of time and money.

   From the beginning, this wasn’t about prompts or features. It was about how a powerful new technology would reshape how we think, create, relate, and understand ourselves.
2. The goal isn’t to keep up — it’s to stay conscious.
   When change accelerates, awareness matters more than speed. The real work is learning how to engage with AI intentionally instead of reactively.
3. AI doesn’t have to replace your creativity — it can amplify it.
   Used well, these tools don’t erase intuition or originality. They sharpen them. They give ideas room to breathe instead of boxing them in.
4. Reflection is a feature, not a weakness.
   AI can help you think things through, gain perspective, and make sense of complexity faster — not by telling you who to be, but by helping you hear yourself more clearly.
5. The future belongs to people who use technology to become more human, not less.
   My hope is that AI helps people feel more whole, more grounded, and more capable of choosing how they show up — creatively, ethically, and personally.

Bigger Room, Same Energy

Previously, Pixel Dreams cofounders Kal and Lan opened their home to the Winter Summit. We gathered in a space that felt personal, direct, and close to the roots of the company.

In 2025, we moved into the screening room at Festival Tower, several stories above the iconic TIFF Bell Lightbox in downtown Toronto. The PDT was greeted by a reception area with breakfast & coffee laid out, and a long snack bar stocked and waiting. Then into the screening room with tiered seating, theatrical lighting, and an A/V stack worthy of a premiere. The stage was set for a day of big ideas, sharp thinking, and riotous laughter.

By night, the team crossed town to The Jamii Hub on The Esplanade for the evening programming including Headshots, I+A Awards, a Raffle, and Secret Santa gift exchange.

Connection Built In

The official theme of Winter Summit 2025 was Connection, and it was woven throughout the day.

The breakfast and conversation block was labelled “Connecting” on the schedule. The Raising Standards showcases connected disciplines across teams by showcasing client wins on the big screen. State of the Nation connected each PDTer’s day-to-day effort to shared growth targets, financial realities, and the bigger bets ahead.

A gameshow format replaced the traditional Q&A. Questions spanned culture, growth, sales, operations, and team. Anyone could be called on based on tenure, birthday, Kolbe score, DiSC profile, or pure chance. XT answered in real time. The I+A Awards connected everyone to our core value of Seeking Wisdom.

Raffle tickets earned during the day were redeemed at night. Prizes consisted of experiences that paired teammates in unexpected ways. Secret Santa tested how connected we are to each other with three guesses to name your gift-giver.

And when official programming was over and the music came up, connection moved to the dance floor.

Day: Summit

The morning opened with Lannie aka Star’s Marketing Report, walking us through how the PD brand is being packaged, positioned, and pushed forward. The Raising Standards block followed with four client showcases exploring unique project challenges. Teams walked through what worked, what was difficult, and what they would do differently next time.

State of the Nation with Khalid aka Dreams shifted the lens to the bigger picture: where we stand, what we’ve learned, and where we’re headed next. After lunch, a Fireside Chat with PD advisors Michael aka Harmony and Ted aka Wizard set an introspective tone.

And finally, it was time for our Q&A game show, Jah’PD, with two hours of unpredictable questions submitted by the PDT, and insightful answers by our XT.

Then it was time for a change of scenery.

Evening: Dinner & Celebrations

By late afternoon, the team crossed town to The Jamii Hub for the evening program.

We kicked off the festivities with a photo shoot. Everyone in the company stepped before the lens in a series of 5-minute timeslots with drinks, appetizers, and music setting the mood. Dinner was served, followed by the I+A Awards, celebrating our individual and collective journey of learning and self-improvement.

Raffle tickets earned throughout the day were entered to win unique personal experiences with members of our XT. Then Secret Santa: 33 participants collecting their gifts one by one, with three tries at guessing their gift giver.

After formalities wrapped, the music was turned up and the PDT filled the dance floor, keeping the spirit alive until late.

Pixel Dreams has grown. The rooms are bigger. The production is tighter. The questions are sharper. But the heart of Pixel Dreams remains the same.

Winter Summit 2025 was a huge upgrade in terms of production, ambition, and vision. We send huge thanks to all the members of the team who brought this mammoth undertaking together.

The timing aligned with our Winter holiday dinner. We hired a photographer and blended partying, dancing, and celebrating with capturing a refreshed, unified image of the team.

The last time Pixel Dreams organized a full headshot session for the team, the photos helped project a sharp, unified image. At the time, we were a team of about ten. Now we’re more than 40.

The new images needed to feel unified, scalable, and distinctly Pixel Dreams. They had to work across platforms. They had to hold up over time. And they had to keep the human at the centre.

Once the collection was revealed to the team, everybody received three versions of their official PD headshot: Serious, Smiling, and Silly. The PD handle colours introduce personality and individuality, while the black-and-white portraits present a unified image.

The Presence Effect

The team dinner took place while Harvey aka Enhance was visiting from his native UK. For a team used to collaborating across time zones and chat threads, the outing was a reminder that to do our best work, we need the camaraderie, spontaneity, and shared rhythm that only happens face to face. Making time (and crossing vast distances) to gather in person keeps the team aligned with the work, the culture, and each other.

Over a delicious meal near our downtown Toronto HQ, conversations sparked about the year that was, projects that stretched us, and moments that stuck. With a toast to project milestones, the surprises were the highlights: a first-time animation pulled off under pressure. A joke that got funnier with every retelling. A client curveball that turned into something better. These moments of connection and chemistry aren’t made in a virtual meeting.

The Pace We Set

In no rush at all, the team walked to and from dinner. This was a simple but intentional detail. Movement for the body and space for the mind gave the team a chance to relax and reset. As Trevor aka Ideas put it, “The busier we get, the more difficult it is to find that time to just have camaraderie… and have conversations other than about the task at hand.”

A night over dinner is a structural pillar that allows the team to slow down and sync up. It’s an opportunity to for each person to learn more about who they’re building with.

The dinner gathered PD lifers along with new members who were off the clock with their teammates for the first time. Conversation turned to skills people want to build, risks they want to take, and the kinds of designers they’re becoming. As Trevor put it, “It’s important to track and take note of the things you’ve worked on throughout the year. They show that PD isn’t just a place to work, it’s a place to grow.”

Health by Design

The walk to dinner and the choice of venue reflected PD’s belief that health and culture are built moment by moment. The night was a chance for newer team members to experience the values, pace, and personality of PD as they connected with colleagues outside of their professional roles.

The 2025 Design Team year-end dinner was about building a vital foundation for team growth. It was a way for teammates, old and new, to understand not just the projects at hand, but each other. That’s the work too.

Recently, some of our Toronto team members got a chance to see Chris Hadfield’s GeneratorTO 2025, a one-night-only mixed variety show that turned out to be equal parts wonderful, weird, and educational.

We didn’t know what to expect, but an enlightening time was assured.

The Event

Hosted by Chris Hadfield, Canada’s iconic moustachioed astronaut (remember when he sang Space Oddity in space?), GeneratorTO is a science-based live show that puts what’s new and interesting front and center. The lineup is a secret, but always features some of the world’s best comedians, scientists, artists, and musicians. Anything goes, which is part of the fun.

For Nabeel aka Bridge, his favourite part was Chris Hadfield’s talk about “space pollution,” the unseen problem of defunct satellites and the cloud of debris they create.

“You never really think about satellites and space junk that’s no longer working.” he added. “They lose focus, crash into each other, causing damage to other satellites to the point that debris can come back to Earth. It’s basically environmental pollution. They’re even looking at ways to zap it away. It’s something you don’t usually consider.”

For others, it was the sheer variety. Not many shows mix so many disciplines and genres, or feature such a wide array of eclectic guests. It takes a special kind of host to wrap it all together but if anyone can do it, it’s the supremely talented Chris Hadfield.

A Night of Firsts

For many of us, it was our first time attending GeneratorTO. For some of our newer teammates, it was the first time being with the team outside of the office, giving them their first taste of PD’s after hours culture.
 

Conclusion

With great performances, and thought-provoking presentations, it was a reminder that sometimes the best company moments happen off the clock. For our new PDTers, it was an initiation. The evening sparked conversations and memories that will help Raise I+A for years to come.
